Princess Yachts and King Point
Over the last few weeks we have been keeping you up to date with the launch of Princess Yachts’ new R Class performance sports yacht and, after months of secrecy, the company have now announced that their revolutionary R35 vessel will be formally introduced to the market in September 2018.
Princess Yachts is a well-known boat building company which creates numerous popular superyachts and sports vessels. Here at King Point Marina we have always had a good relationship with our close neighbours, allowing them to use berths in our marina, but hosting the R35 prototype was a real treat.
The R35 is the brainchild of a project between Princess Yachts, BAR Technologies and Pininfarina, who decided they wanted to create a completely new type of yacht which challenged the typical conventions. By combing their individual skills the companies were able to design and create the awe-inspiring new vessel, the R35.
This ground breaking vessel, which was berthed in King Point Marina as it underwent its sea trails, measures 35ft in length and is the fastest boat ever made by Princess Yachts. Featuring advanced technology and skilled craftsmanship, the R35 has two V8 engines and can reach a top speed of 50 knots, stealing the title from the 1988 Princess 266 Riviera, the companies previous fastest at 44 knots.
Before Princess Yachts officially announced the launch of the R35, information about the vessel was kept under wraps. The company even went as far as to use dazzle camouflage on the R35 to ensure details about the vessel were kept secret. This type of camouflage worked to confuse onlookers rather than conceal the vessel by using the geometric patterns to make it hard to determine size, direction and speed.
Despite the adventurous style of the vessel, the R35 remains true to its Princess roots with the company stating on their website that “the all-new R Class will feature the unique Princess Active Foil System (AFS) and deliver the fastest and most efficient Princess boating experience to date.”
In addition, the fully carbon fibre R35 will feature top of the range technology throughout the vessel with a spacious concealed cabin and a ample galley with seating area that can be transformed into a double berth with ensuite if needed.
The price for the R35 is yet to be announced but it is expected that the vessel will be debuted on September 10 at the 2018 Cannes Yachting Festival.
